He completed his Masters degree at Northern Illinois University and then went on to complete his Ph.D., at the University of Florida, in the area of clinical psychology. During his Ph.D. program Dr. Cohen began working in the field of what was then called medical psychology focusing his practice on diagnosing and treating the emotional ramifications of physical injury and illness. Following the completion of his Ph.D., program Dr. Cohen developed and ran an interdisciplinary pain program at our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Binghampton, New York. He then later developed and ran a similar program in Boulder, Colorado at the Mapleton Center. Dr. Cohen is currently in private practice in Colorado working with injured workers, patients with injuries sustained in motor vehicle accidents, and patient with both acute and chronic illness. Outside of work Dr. Cohen enjoys reading, travel, theater, symphony, and fine dinning. Dr. Cohen currently maintains offices in Englewood, Wheat Ridge, and Fort Collins. Dr. Joel Cohen was born and raised in New York and did his undergraduate work at the University of Buffalo in New York.
